September 1997: “Gargrave”, Pennine Cruisers of Skipton
We booked 59ft 8 berth Gargrave as she was new for that season and I think I fancied hiring a big boat! With just the three of us onboard there was plenty of space and storage. She was nicely built to a comfortable standard and we spent a week cruising the Leeds and Liverpool canal, including the Bingley 5-rise locks. The lock length is shorter on this canal so Gargrave was almost the maximum length allowed. There were a higher number of swing bridges, and the locks were double width so two boats could go through together. Josh, our Springer Spaniel was about a year old, and in his eagerness to stand as much on the boat edge as possible he slipped in about an hour after leaving the base! He was given a shower on the towpath once we figured how to pass the shower head out of the window!
